I’ve written a new article published today exploring ‘Follow Your Bliss’ and ‘Personal Legend,’ phrases coined by famous mythologist and writer Joseph Campbell and Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho.

To find out what was synchronistic about their professional lives, read my article at Suite101:

This years NEOS open studios week has come around pretty fast!  It really doesn’t feel that long since I was exhibiting at Mill Farm near Kemnay last year.

This year I will have my work on show at St Marys Church, High Street in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.  I’ll be exhibiting alongside around 17 other artists and designers including my Dad Ian R. Cormack and his paintings.

Open studios will begin on Sunday 12th September this year and run for the whole week until Monday 21st.  It’s a great chance to visit the studios, homes and work spaces of the bevvy of talent nestling around the north east coasts of Scotland.

For further information and opening times for Art at st Marys Church check out the NEOS link here:

This venue was organised by Christine Ross who will be exhibiting her work alongside myself and many others.

I’ll have my individual jewellery pieces on display as well as handmade greetings cards and original artwork, all available for purchase at affordable prices.

A selection of one of a kind jewells are now available to purchase from a brick & mortar venue in Edinburgh!

Flux is a very funky shop near the shore in Leith, Edinburgh.  55 Bernard Street to be exact.

Check out their site here: http://www.get2flux.co.uk

There will be a selection of sea-glass stud earrings (glass from Pittenweem), vintage button & glass earrings, semi-precious stones, amber sea-glass brooch and paua shell pin, some very rare lilac and cobalt blue sea glass and gemstone necklaces and natural pebble and sea-glass necklaces with gems.

This shop sells all kinds of art pieces, great gifts and beautiful things (including my jewellery now!!).

My individually designed art cards can now be purchased from Panache Flowers 221 Leith Walk, Edinburgh as well as Word of Mouth Cafe on Albert Street in Leith.

Still editing poetry for my dissertation for Uni…..only one month to go now!

I found myself in Pittenweem in Fife on the 1st of August.  To celebrate my mums 60th birthday, we all got together to go to the arts festival that was on in the little fishing village of Pittenweem that week.

The weather turned out to be beautiful which made wondering round all the quirky narrow paths and streets between the white washed and multi-coloured cottages and houses much more relaxed.

Quaint is the word a lot of people might associate with the village.  Here is a picture of one of the narrow paths and a little house shrounded in vibrant flowers:

We walked in and out of open studios and galleries.  Many artists had opened their homes to house their work and allow the public to stroll through, so it was a great opportunity to have a look at the interiors of some traditional style cottages and homes.

I loved the knitted fish down by the pier:

My Dad insisted on having fish and chips from the famous Anstruther fish and chip shop even though we waited an entire hour to get in!!  I was so hungry, I didn’t care what I ate:

I liked the detail on this wall of weathered sandstone that has the look of a driftwood window but is infact white tiles:

And these smooth carved wooden ovals with patterns burnt into the wood:

Walking around the village of Anstruther, there were lots of beachy details such as these shells imbedded into walls:

A lot of quirky little creative corners that were not part of the Art show caught my eye.

I found a very cool little arty cafe on Albert Street off of Leith Walk in Edinburgh ~ they do great chai latte, the proper chai tea and not the horrible syrupy or powdered stuff full of sugar.

I met my Kiwi friend there last week for a cuppa and got talking to the manager, so now I have my greetings cards on display!!  They look really good though I say so myself and soon I may have a little jewellery display in there too.

Here’s a few pics of my card samples, if you’re passing, drop by for lunch (really good chicken and sweetcorn soup!):

I was rather pleased that ShopBug decided to select my online Etsy store as ’shop of the week’  this July- Thank you Shop bug!  ShopBugs blog is a shopping blog about shopping tips, experiences and new design.

To read my interview and to see images of my work that ShopBug has featured in her article, follow this link: http://theshopbug.blogspot.com/2009/07/shop-of-week-jane-alexandra-cormack.html  and read July’s issue of ‘Shop of the Week- Jane Alexandra Cormack’.

Well, life has been super busy lately so I’m finally getting round to saying hello in my blog again!!  This time I’m taking part in a local Art exhibition.  It’s in Banchory which is up by Royal Deeside in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.  I took part in this exhibition last year too which was successful and popular!  I can’t believe it’s come around again so quickly.

I’m exhibiting twelve specific pieces of individually handmade jewellery displayed in a hand-made wall mounted picture frame and an antique jewellery display box.

The exhibition is open from Saturday 18th July until Sunday 26th from 10am to 6pm daily and until 5pm on the last day.

The title of the exhibition is ‘Homecoming Scotland’ and so I have decided to exhibit pieces that include Scottish sea glass and shells.  I’ve had many ‘homecomings’ to Scotland since I’ve travelled a lot.  It is one of the most beautiful countries in the world!

Banchory is a lovely Scottish town and ‘The Sheiling’ sells the best homemade cakes and fine pieces!  I had lunch there with my Australian friend last week who was visiting Scotland for the first time.  She had a huge cinnamon scone! yum

Here’s a few sample of my jewellery that will be on display…

I’ve had another jewellery piece featured in an Etsy treasury!  It’s great when this happens because other Etsians choose particular pieces from different stores to create a visually creative, beautiful, themed collection of handmade work.

The theme for this particular treasury was ‘Rivers’ and featured some beautiful nature photography.  Unfortunately I missed the deadline to be able to take a screen shot of the collection for my blog as I just learned how to do that today (see blog post below!)  But here is an image of my necklace/pendant that I named ‘A River Runs Through it’  which I made from recycled sea glass and ceramic from the banks of the River Thames in London.

And just to try another screen shot from this piece featured in my online shop:

Now I know how to do this, I’ll be able to post the next treasury I’m featured in here!
